Liam loves Spiderman!
Sally, Liam's mom, told me that Liam was very disappointed when she brought a car cake to his birthday celebration at the daycare.
He told his Dad that he wants a Spiderman cake and not a car cake.
So when I arrived at the party with this cake, Liam was very ecstatic.
He was so happy to see that finally his wish to have a Spiderman cake came true.
He actually doesn't even want anyone to eat the cake/cupcakes.
Very funny kid.
The cupcake toppers were made two weeks in advance.
I worked on them while watching TV about 1-2 hours per day, not everyday though.
I made three dozen circles using a circle cutter out of fondant with tylose powder.
I let them dry overnight.
Then next night using a food writer pen, I painted the cobwebs.
The same with the Spiderman heads,
I made three dozen heads using fondant with tylose powder.
To make Spiderman Heads
Get about a 1-1/2 inch ball of fondant, roll it to form a head shape.
Let it dry for about a day.
Once the 'head' is dry, paint the cobwebs using an edible pen.
For the Spiderman's eyes, cut out a black and white circle out of fondant
using a small petal cutter.
To make Spiders
Make two tiny balls out of black fondant,
Flatten them to make the Spider's head and body
Roll thin fondant to make the legs.
Use edible pen to make the cobwebs.
I really wanted this cake topper.figurine to look as close to Spiderman.
I started with the legs and the torso using blue fondant (with tylose powder)
For the chest/arms and boots, I use red fondant.
Let the body/leg dry overnight - before putting the chest/arms.
One mistake I made here.
I was very impatient to finish the figurine.
The body is still soft so the weight of the upper part is pushing the legs in almost sitting position.

But overall this will do.
I baked four 9 x 9 inch cake and one 9 x 13 inch cake Thursday night.
I double wrapped the cakes in plastic wrap and placed them in the refrigerator.
Friday night, I was mutli-tasking.
I was assembling the cakes while baking three dozen cupcakes (chocolate and vanilla cupcakes)
I crumbcoated the cakes with Italian Meringue Buttercream and Chocolate Ganache.
I filled each layer with Cream Cheese buttercream.
This is an all-nighter project and finished around 3AM.
Saturday morning, I put the finishing touches (such as stars, cobwebs, blinking lights) on the cake.
I also piped each cupcakes with blue strawberry flavored IMBC frosting and placed the toppers.
All my hard-work paid off upon seeing Liam's reaction.
